Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Alakè collects, uses and protects personal information when you visit our website, apply for membership, refer or gift a membership, or interact with us as a member.
We collect only the information reasonably needed to operate Alakè, respond to you, assess applications, provide membership services and manage payments and communications.
Information We Collect
Depending on how you interact with Alakè, we may collect your name, email address, WhatsApp or telephone number, city, country of residence, nationality, membership application responses, preferences, referral or gift information, and information you choose to provide through member questionnaires or communications.
When you make a payment, payment information is processed by Stripe. Alakè does not receive or store your full card number.
How We Use Your Information
We may use personal information to review membership applications, communicate with applicants and members, deliver membership benefits, manage referrals and gifts, process and administer payments, respond to enquiries, maintain records, improve the Alakè experience, and protect the security and integrity of our services.
Referrals and Gifts
If you refer a woman or purchase a gift membership, you may provide us with another person's name and contact details. Please share another person's information only where you are comfortable doing so and have a reasonable basis to make the introduction.
Service Providers
We may share information with trusted service providers that help us operate Alakè, such as website hosting and form providers, email or workflow providers, and payment processors including Stripe. These providers process information for the services they provide to us and are subject to their own contractual and privacy obligations.
We do not sell personal information to advertisers.
International Processing
Alakè serves women across Africa and the diaspora. Our service providers and operations may therefore involve processing personal information in countries other than the country where you live. We take reasonable steps to use reputable providers and handle information appropriately in connection with those transfers.
How Long We Keep Information
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, to provide services, maintain appropriate business records, resolve disputes, and meet legal, accounting or regulatory requirements. Information that is no longer required may be deleted or anonymised.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures designed to protect personal information. No website, transmission method or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Your Choices and Rights
You may contact us to ask about personal information we hold about you, request that inaccurate information be corrected, or request deletion where appropriate. Depending on where you live, applicable privacy laws may provide additional rights.
You may also ask us to stop sending non-essential communications at any time.
Cookies and Website Technology
Our website and service providers may use cookies or similar technology that is necessary to operate, secure and deliver the site and its forms. If we introduce additional analytics or marketing technologies, we may update this policy and any related notices as appropriate.
Children
Alakè membership and this website are intended for adults. We do not knowingly seek personal information from children under 18 through our membership application process.
